There comes a point when we need some advise, support or just a sounding board in life to help us make those tough decisions when inky pinky ponky …doesn’t quite work! Fathers give some of the most awesome advice for survival. Even if it sounds preachy or over-protective at that point in time, it sticks with us a long way. From getting over a best friend’s betrayal to a breakup, from choosing the right college to accepting job offers, Daddy’s seem to have the magic beans!
As a Father’s Day special, we rolled out a Kanabis giveaway contest for our Insta fans to share the pearls of wisdom they have learnt from their dads. We have curated these super practical lessons that might come in handy to face the big bad world:
- “My dad gave me a compass & told that it always show north. Relationship between you and your goal should be like that.” (@sanyukta_11)
Hell yeah, we need to keep a check on our inbuilt compass!
- “Well…my dad once told me Don’t get caught in this patriarchal society, as a girl & a woman your place is way above than what this society thinks of you…a father of 2 daughters and a son, he always motivated us to go out in the world and make our mark.” (@chhavii.sharma)
You go Girl! Aren’t we all inspired from these Girl Bosses ?
- “Your focus should be on yourself and your family. Rest will come and go. But these two things will define you and shape your future. Also he always says never run after money, try to learn and understand things and try to save – time, relationships and money.” (@solely_lazy)
Can’t argue with that!
- “Do the mistake only then you’ll learn to handle problems’. This had actually embraced myself during crisis and had prevented crisis to arise.” (@_mashurum_)
Yes, lets listen to the wise man.
- “Do whatever you feel like to do… Don’t let the words of people spoil your inner strength!!” (@sheetal_baheti)
Oh yes. The world will have an opinion anyway! Don’t we all agree?
- “Being a musician coming from a small family, my father always told me I was destined to be great, he told me to keep pushing my way to the top. He told me to keep climbing up the ladder and if I fall he will carry me up. For someone who loses faith in herself so easy, my dad had the confidence for me. He gave me faith, he gave me wings to fly, he held my hand I could touch the sky, he said no star was out of reach! He gave me confidence!” (@trippy_procrastinator)
Dads are undoubtedly our super heroes we can count on!
- “Your talent defines you not marks” or “people come & go but parents will always be with their child” or “never look down on yourself” or “having breakfast is important” or chasing our dreams with us?” (@tanu2705)
Sharp & practical. Noted!
- “Above everything else in life always BE KIND. the world needs more of generous and kind people” (@sujata_sharma_08)
Love Love Love this one!
- “….Your richness and goodness is measured in your ability to offer help to your near and dear ones without expecting much in return; and finally god will do the calculus”(@vasundra333)
Golden words right?
- “My dad has always took pride in his 3 daughters. He believes only God’s favorite ones are blessed with daughters. I have learnt from him to trust people but not blindly, to respect others but never put our self-respect at stake, to take full responsibility of our every decision. We write our own destiny and should never blame others for our mistakes. My dad has made me grow into a strong, practical, independent woman.” (@ritika430)
You want to frame or tattoo some or all of these right? If you are feeling a bit mushy inside or more confident outside or anywhere in between, and want to run to your Dad and give him a tight bear hug, go do it 🙂
Our job as shoe makers is truly rewarded when we hear from our beloved customers. Each ‘shoe-tale’ is so unique, starting from how they got a pair of Kanabis, where they wore it and how they felt after.
Here are some of our favorite anecdotes we have heard, received and cherished.
She was going on vacation to Bali and looking for a cool beachy holiday wear and found the perfect pair at an exhibition – our Tassel Tales that matched all her outfits and completed her chill’ look!
The tassel flats were super comfortable; they got new fans because everyone that I was travelling with loved them
– Devangi Saraf
She has a hectic job and was looking for some comfy but also stylish wear to wear to work. She received this pair as a gift & was so happy. Check her out- taking a mirror selfie flaunting her lacy ballerinas, we call Airy Fairy. She loved the shoes and we loved her picture
Perfect find, Trendy & I can wear them with a formal dress. Everyone in my office loved them!
– Deepanshi Tayal
She has been looking for brogues with block heels & was super excited to have found this combination online ..bring on the Girl Boss!
For 5ft nothings like me, brogues with block heels are like icing on the cake. I love brogues, i love heels, and if they are block heels at that – i call it being sorted.
– Aashna Khanum
Nothing is more precious than a repeat customer. She first came to our warehouse to try a pair, and since that day her loyalties and her shoe closet have been tied to us!
Kanabis Shoes are my favs. I have a closet full of them
– Aarohi Mehra
Kanabis fans are spread not just in India but overseas too. Most of them find us on Facebook or Instagram while looking for vegan products.
They are sooo cute. My first pair of cruelty free shoes!
– Customers across the seas
“While we try to teach our children all about life, our children teach us what life is all about”-Angela Schwindt.
I feel that our children are the ones who teach us much more than we teach them. They are no less than a psychologist as they can read our mind, ease our pain and at the end of the day, make us feel better about ourselves and world at large. This Mothers Day, lets not just celebrate mothers but also the little ones who bring that motherhood out of us.
My daughter will turn 5 this May. It just seems like yesterday when I was at the hospital for my delivery. I was partly conscious because somewhere in between all that numbness of my senses and commotion of the operation theatre, I heard the best music to my ears- Its a girl with my daughters cry as the background score.
As every other mother, I love my child but at the same time I owe a lot to her. She made me realize that I am much stronger than I thought I was. Earlier, I was scared of sleeping in the dark but after her birth, I got used to sleeping with lights off to put her to sleep. She has taught me to be selfless and to love unconditionally. When she throws her arms around me, I feel wanted and loved in a manner that is so pure and effortless.
She has taught me how to remain positive. I look at her face and feel energized even after a long tiring day. She helped me discover myself and develop new skills such as story telling, cooking (without getting burnt!), horse riding to name a few.
The faith she has in me makes me feel invincible and nothing less than a wonder woman. Life was great before her as well but after she arrival, it has been all things amazing.
We always talk about how selfless we mothers are but we forget to praise the ones who bring out the best of motherhood in us. So this mother’s days I am going to bring a cake and thank my little one for making me a MOM.
This week as Kanabis is turning 3, we are both excited and nostalgic. We are reminded of the journey starting from the goosebumps of 7th April 2015- our debut launch at Hotel Ashok in Delhi, to the highs and lows, the ecstatic, and the stressful moments thereafter…3 years on.
Looking back we get emotional, proud and motivated to stretch ourselves more and meet even bigger ambitions.
We started with 22 styles and have launched over 100 new styles since inception. From wedges to sneakers, to strappy sandals to brogues, we have come a long way and have always been on point with fashion trends. From the cool floral prints to the ginghams block heels we had so much fun designing shoes, naming them and bringing them to market.
We received so much love from our customers. It truly makes our day when we receive shoe-selfies and heartfelt feedback (check out our fanbook). A highlight of the year was when Jacqueline Fernandez was spotted wearing our tassel tales sandals. Many celebs likes of Adah Sharma, Ayesha Takia, Sana Khan, Payal Rohtagi, Aanchal Munjal, Hina Khan in Big Boss have been wearing Kanabis & supporting us.
A pleasant surprise that came our way was the Digital Women’s award for e-commerce by Shethepeople. We hadn’t gotten over this joyous news that we received another award from Peta for the Most Compassionate Business. These shiny trophies grace our new office cabin encouraging us to keep up our A game. The Kanabis family also expanded and we felt a new wave of motivation as new members came in with new ideas, aspirations and experience.
Amidst our daily assignments, one of the milestone was being part of Amazon India Fashion Week AW’18 and our shoes rocked the ramp for designers Abhi Singh & Aarti Vijaygupta.
These fabulous three years bring us a big smile and bigger dreams. We have lots more in store for this year. Thank you all for being a part of our journey as customers, supporters, followers, admirers, well-wishers and believers.
Stay tuned for more stories from our bright and beautiful shoe-world!
Fashionable shoes take you to Fashionable places! The euphoric moment for us was when we got roped in by FDCI as the only exclusive footwear brand to showcase at the Amazon India Fashion Week held last week, 14th – 18th March at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium New Delhi. With over 100 designers showcasing their collections, presenting ourselves came as an exciting challenge to make our mark. We just couldn’t wait to be next to all the illustrious labels and influencers in the industry. Our team sat together and brainstormed on the visuals to make it as eye catching as possible.
From picking and packing our favourite pairs of Kanabis in the cartons to setting up the display of the stall, it was an exciting start to the week. We welcomed every visitor to try our shoes and collected feedback on our newest range.
Our ‘work-in progress’ collection that hasn’t even launched yet was loved from Day 1 which further pumped our spirits! We also rolled out a contest for our Delhi/NCR customers to win free couple entry passes to the AIFW AW’18. Colorful hues, quirky prints, kite shaped tassels, dramatic necklines along with ruffled sleeves and choker collars were seen in Anupama Dayal’s collection. Patine’s collection consisted of beautiful floral embroidered coats and boots teamed with skirts, gowns and trousers. Samant Chauhan’s collection featured a mix of black and gray hues with ruffled and embellished gowns and embroidered cape jackets.
Vaani Kapoor was seen as showstopper for a joint show by Gauri and Nainika and Ashish N Soni while Diana Penty lit the ramp for designer duo Shyamlal and Bhumika.
Day 2 saw a heavy footfall of buyers and customers exchanging feedback with us for our footwear. Meeting buyers who appreciated our brand’s concept and our product range was motivating. Being part of the Amazon Designer Boutique, our team mates had an amazing interaction session at the Amazon seminar led by none other than FDCI chairman Sunil Sethi.
In the Pearl Alumni Fashion Show, we caught up with the newest trends on styles and design elements for the coming season. The ramp was further lit by Bollywood actors Rhea Chakraborty, Bipasha Basu and Kartik Aryan in the later shows. Black and floral prints were one of the prominent combinations created by Rina Dhaka. Models were seen wearing loose sleeves paired with asymmetrical skirts and coat. Bipasha Basu walked the ramp clad in a lehenga set from designer Karishma Sondhi. Pastels and floral prints ruled her ensembles.
The highest point for us in the event was when our favorite Tassel Tales flats walked the ramp for designers Abhi Singh and Aartivjay Gupta on Day 3 of AIFW AW’18.
Mostly featuring shades of pink, white and gray, designer Abhi Singh’s collection included dramatic sleeves, kimono-styled trench dresses and trousers with sleeveless tops also featuring checkered wrap dresses, skirts with longline shirts and bell-sleeve kurtas. Our beige and white strappy flats with a string of tassels around the ankle complemented the theme well. Aartivijay Gupta’s collection consisted of quirky printed gowns and dresses with crop and longline jackets. Teamed with Kanabis footwear, both designers didn’t fail to impress the audience. Featured by Vogue India, Elle India and Miss Malini on their social media feeds, Kanabis shoes stood out from the rest.
Day 3 and Day 4 were the busiest business days with buyers flocking in for orders and appreciations pouring in from fellow designers. Shows by Charu Vij, Gautam Gupta, Diksha Khanna, Kanika Goyal, Rabani & Rakha, Sidddartha Tytler, Shruti Sancheti, Sahil Kochhar, SET WET, Pero and Namarata Joshipura ended Day 4 on high style quotient.
Overall Kanabis wrapped up on Day 4 with a super amazing experience. Spotting creative outfits of the fashionistas ; interaction with stylists, buyers, photographers and the FDCI team gave us a great chunk of knowledge and leads for growing the brand.
We will be coming up with some super comfy and high on style range soon! Till then, stay tuned with our Insta feed and keep slaying in Kanabis!
This women’s day, we celebrate the women, who have ‘broken the glass ceilings’ and strutted their way to success like a boss lady. They inspire us in every way to keep creating an impact and do meaningful work.
1. Manushi Chillar – The reigning Miss World, this beautiful young lady has taken the world by storm and brought the prestigious title back to our country in 2017 after 17 years. She is truly a show-stopper, just like our Shoe Stopper Brogues!
2. Anita Dongre – She is changing the Indian fashion scene and making it affordable to all while making new strides towards sustainability. We, at Kanabis, too do our part by providing fashion forward yet vegan footwear, like these Eye Candy block heels.
4. Mithali Raj – She is the current captain of the Women’s Cricket team of India. A Padma Shri Awardee, she has shown that cricket is not just a man’s game. Step out of your comfort zone, just like her in our Tan Girl Boss Brogues.
5. Nirmala Sitharaman – An Indian politician, currently serving as the Defence Minister of India. She is the Boss lady protecting our borders. Stay ahead in line in our Beige Girl Boss brogues.
As we gear up to bid goodbye to winters and welcome the pleasant spring, we provide you with a guide to cover your wardrobe requirements for the season.
Our pick for this spring and resort wear is lace-up flats. Whether it’s pom poms or tassels or two-way sandals, they’re a great way to add a quirky element or a pop of colour to your outfits.
Our favourite on the list and a new release is our two-way lace up pointed ballerina No Strings Attached. You can wear it with the string that can be tied around the ankles or remove the string and wear them as simple sling backs.

Tassels have been a fashion favourite and rightly so because they never fail to add a chic or a boho vibe to your outfit. Pair these Tassel Tales with a printed striped dress.
For an easy day look, grab a pair of these colourful pom pom flats called poppins that instantly add a splash of colour to your outfits.
Running errands, attending meetings or just catching up with some friends, pair strings and stripes with a pair of jeans and a top or a shirt for the perfect look.
And you’re all set for that movie date or a Sunday brunch. Look cute, chic and oh-so comfy!
As the year draws to a close, and we are busy making ambitious plans and projections for 2018, we would like to take a moment and recap 2017. At KANABIS, our year was sprinkled with activities & surprises, the expected & the unexpected that kept us going and stretching for more.
New Styles. Yasss… Lots of them! Our sneaker game was on point with our open-back sneakers. We couldn’t get enough of bows-on-toes this summer and had so much fun designing (and shoe-naming!) Be-My Bows and Summer Sliders. As summer gave way to spring, we launched our gypsy girl collection with tassels, pompoms and tie-ups at play. We turned to tribal prints for some very cool and comfy flats and espadrilles. Did you feel the #tribevibe?
KANABIS also ventured into new markets! We had our first international bulk order from Australia and next one from New Zealand. We are thrilled to see happy customers from across the seas- from USA to Italy to Netherlands to Singapore. We plan to start global shipping from our website in the coming year.
Here at home, we exhibited in the charming city Chandigarh for the first time. Our relationships with our usual partner stores strengthened and new ones surfaced with stores and bloggers, during the course of the year. In the online world, we went live on Myntra, Jaypore and Loom, but our true love, energy and focus remained on our very own, our beloved kanabis.in customers. We did some fun giveaway contests and quizzes round the year, surprise offers and not to forget the Secret Santa Sale (currently on!)
It was also an year of some exciting and meaningful initiatives. We sponsored the LSR dance competition at their fest called Tarang and experienced #backtocollege life as we set up our shop on their campus for 3 days. We were approached by NIFT Delhi to partake in a project for their Market Research course by the masters students. We enjoyed interacting with college folks, the bright sparks interested in entrepreneurship at LSR, Amity, Bhagat Singh, IIT Delhi and others. In other collaborations, we gave out a copy of VegPlanet magazine with vegan recipes free with each pair of KANABIS. We are currently giving out “All you need is Love, not Leather” stickers from Vegan First. Have you got your badge yet?
We have loved every selfie and shoutout shared by our customers, which led to the creation of our Fanbook page. One of the OMG moments of the year was when we spotted the gorgeous Jacqueline Fernandez wearing our shoes! Crossing 100k fans on Facebook was also very special. Many other celebrities likes of Adah Sharma, Sana Khan, Payal Rohatgi, Hina Khan on Bigg Boss have been wearing and supporting Kanabis. We are thankful to Business Standard, The Hindu, Femina, and several other blogs and media for featuring us. A completely new experience was making through the rounds and pitching Kanabis on the television show Runway to Success, aired recently on ET NOW. The viewers choice award is still open, if you fancy voting click here : )
What came as a total surprise few weeks ago was a call from SheThePeople to tell us that we had won the Digital Women’s Award for E-commerce. We were dancing away with joy just when another call came through, this time from Peta, to give us the Most Compassionate Business Award. On 1st December, we moved into our shiny new offices with shiny trophies to grace the new space, feeling blessed and forever grateful to the universe, and all our well- wishers.
We’re all set for the year end and the celebrations that come along with it. Keeping that in mind, we’ve prepared a lowdown for you on a trend that has been making headlines in the fashion world. From runways to fashion magazine covers, from events to your favourite brands, it’s been spotted everywhere. If you haven’t guessed it already, it’s called Gingham.
“Gingham” comes from the Malayan word genggang, or “striped.” It is a plain-woven fabric made from dyed cotton or cotton-blend yarn featuring a pattern with checks, different from what it was known originally for. It is available in myriad colours and different width of the check pattern. It’s a print that can take you from day to night in practically no time. It looks super chic and can be styled in many ways. Whether, it’s jeans, long or short skirts or ankle grazing dresses, this is your go to print for the season.
We’re all set to release the new styles featuring the gingham fabric in different colours. A low block heel and different width front straps that are absolutely comfortable for walking during the day and ultra chic for dancing away the night.
Christmas came in early for us and for our Kanabis customers because we have a red check variant which is perfect for all those Christmas parties and Christmas dressing ideas. Whats more, comes with an optional hand embroidered rose patch for you to stick and use when you want. One pair, many looks!
So stay tuned with this space!

On a beautiful Sunday afternoon I was out for brunch with my friends, enjoying the cool breeze and a hearty conversation. We discussed our latest shopping escapades, then moved on to the less guilty topics of careers, companies and we landed on Kanabis & how it is to work for a two year old fashion startup.
I have been working at Kanabis for six months now and what a journey it has been! An office where in no time colleagues turn friends and mornings turn into evenings, the startup life is challenging yet exciting. From brainstorming quirky new shoe designs to trying the samples to finalizing the marketing plan. The best part about working here is that each day you are doing something exciting. There are definitely some ‘wow’ moments but the day to day operations at a startup truly make you sweat and earn those.
It starts from an idea, first the designer sketches it out keeping in mind the trend. Its very important to keep up or even ahead of the market as a fashion company. We take market research very seriously both primary and secondary and then starts the real work. The founder herself hand picks the fabric for our shoes. Then starts multiple rounds of sampling and joys (and worries!) of shoe-trials. Co-incidentally it’s an all women team, all with the sample foot size so samples get tested and rotated so everyone’s feedback gets collected and analyzed for the smallest of issue!
Once the samples are approved they go into production. In parallel starts the planning and strategy-building for sales and promotion. Photo shoots, creating cool graphics, social media engagement, inventory management, customer ‘love and care’..fun and games.
Finally when the new collection launches, first and foremost we celebrate (Yes, you read it right :D) and then we execute all our hard-thought through plans.
And before we know it, its back to the drawing board again…!
