As we gear up to bid goodbye to winters and welcome the pleasant spring, we provide you with a guide to cover your wardrobe requirements for the season.
Our pick for this spring and resort wear is lace-up flats. Whether it’s pom poms or tassels or two-way sandals, they’re a great way to add a quirky element or a pop of colour to your outfits.
Our favourite on the list and a new release is our two-way lace up pointed ballerina No Strings Attached. You can wear it with the string that can be tied around the ankles or remove the string and wear them as simple sling backs.

Tassels have been a fashion favourite and rightly so because they never fail to add a chic or a boho vibe to your outfit. Pair these Tassel Tales with a printed striped dress.
For an easy day look, grab a pair of these colourful pom pom flats called poppins that instantly add a splash of colour to your outfits.
Running errands, attending meetings or just catching up with some friends, pair strings and stripes with a pair of jeans and a top or a shirt for the perfect look.
And you’re all set for that movie date or a Sunday brunch. Look cute, chic and oh-so comfy!
As the year draws to a close, and we are busy making ambitious plans and projections for 2018, we would like to take a moment and recap 2017. At KANABIS, our year was sprinkled with activities & surprises, the expected & the unexpected that kept us going and stretching for more.
New Styles. Yasss… Lots of them! Our sneaker game was on point with our open-back sneakers. We couldn’t get enough of bows-on-toes this summer and had so much fun designing (and shoe-naming!) Be-My Bows and Summer Sliders. As summer gave way to spring, we launched our gypsy girl collection with tassels, pompoms and tie-ups at play. We turned to tribal prints for some very cool and comfy flats and espadrilles. Did you feel the #tribevibe?
KANABIS also ventured into new markets! We had our first international bulk order from Australia and next one from New Zealand. We are thrilled to see happy customers from across the seas- from USA to Italy to Netherlands to Singapore. We plan to start global shipping from our website in the coming year.
Here at home, we exhibited in the charming city Chandigarh for the first time. Our relationships with our usual partner stores strengthened and new ones surfaced with stores and bloggers, during the course of the year. In the online world, we went live on Myntra, Jaypore and Loom, but our true love, energy and focus remained on our very own, our beloved kanabis.in customers. We did some fun giveaway contests and quizzes round the year, surprise offers and not to forget the Secret Santa Sale (currently on!)
It was also an year of some exciting and meaningful initiatives. We sponsored the LSR dance competition at their fest called Tarang and experienced #backtocollege life as we set up our shop on their campus for 3 days. We were approached by NIFT Delhi to partake in a project for their Market Research course by the masters students. We enjoyed interacting with college folks, the bright sparks interested in entrepreneurship at LSR, Amity, Bhagat Singh, IIT Delhi and others. In other collaborations, we gave out a copy of VegPlanet magazine with vegan recipes free with each pair of KANABIS. We are currently giving out “All you need is Love, not Leather” stickers from Vegan First. Have you got your badge yet?
We have loved every selfie and shoutout shared by our customers, which led to the creation of our Fanbook page. One of the OMG moments of the year was when we spotted the gorgeous Jacqueline Fernandez wearing our shoes! Crossing 100k fans on Facebook was also very special. Many other celebrities likes of Adah Sharma, Sana Khan, Payal Rohatgi, Hina Khan on Bigg Boss have been wearing and supporting Kanabis. We are thankful to Business Standard, The Hindu, Femina, and several other blogs and media for featuring us. A completely new experience was making through the rounds and pitching Kanabis on the television show Runway to Success, aired recently on ET NOW. The viewers choice award is still open, if you fancy voting click here : )
What came as a total surprise few weeks ago was a call from SheThePeople to tell us that we had won the Digital Women’s Award for E-commerce. We were dancing away with joy just when another call came through, this time from Peta, to give us the Most Compassionate Business Award. On 1st December, we moved into our shiny new offices with shiny trophies to grace the new space, feeling blessed and forever grateful to the universe, and all our well- wishers.
We’re all set for the year end and the celebrations that come along with it. Keeping that in mind, we’ve prepared a lowdown for you on a trend that has been making headlines in the fashion world. From runways to fashion magazine covers, from events to your favourite brands, it’s been spotted everywhere. If you haven’t guessed it already, it’s called Gingham.
“Gingham” comes from the Malayan word genggang, or “striped.” It is a plain-woven fabric made from dyed cotton or cotton-blend yarn featuring a pattern with checks, different from what it was known originally for. It is available in myriad colours and different width of the check pattern. It’s a print that can take you from day to night in practically no time. It looks super chic and can be styled in many ways. Whether, it’s jeans, long or short skirts or ankle grazing dresses, this is your go to print for the season.
We’re all set to release the new styles featuring the gingham fabric in different colours. A low block heel and different width front straps that are absolutely comfortable for walking during the day and ultra chic for dancing away the night.
Christmas came in early for us and for our Kanabis customers because we have a red check variant which is perfect for all those Christmas parties and Christmas dressing ideas. Whats more, comes with an optional hand embroidered rose patch for you to stick and use when you want. One pair, many looks!
So stay tuned with this space!

On a beautiful Sunday afternoon I was out for brunch with my friends, enjoying the cool breeze and a hearty conversation. We discussed our latest shopping escapades, then moved on to the less guilty topics of careers, companies and we landed on Kanabis & how it is to work for a two year old fashion startup.
I have been working at Kanabis for six months now and what a journey it has been! An office where in no time colleagues turn friends and mornings turn into evenings, the startup life is challenging yet exciting. From brainstorming quirky new shoe designs to trying the samples to finalizing the marketing plan. The best part about working here is that each day you are doing something exciting. There are definitely some ‘wow’ moments but the day to day operations at a startup truly make you sweat and earn those.
It starts from an idea, first the designer sketches it out keeping in mind the trend. Its very important to keep up or even ahead of the market as a fashion company. We take market research very seriously both primary and secondary and then starts the real work. The founder herself hand picks the fabric for our shoes. Then starts multiple rounds of sampling and joys (and worries!) of shoe-trials. Co-incidentally it’s an all women team, all with the sample foot size so samples get tested and rotated so everyone’s feedback gets collected and analyzed for the smallest of issue!
Once the samples are approved they go into production. In parallel starts the planning and strategy-building for sales and promotion. Photo shoots, creating cool graphics, social media engagement, inventory management, customer ‘love and care’..fun and games.
Finally when the new collection launches, first and foremost we celebrate (Yes, you read it right :D) and then we execute all our hard-thought through plans.
And before we know it, its back to the drawing board again…!
It is time for fall and we’ve got your back when it comes to fall dressing. Fall is all about warm colours and pleasant weather, good food and outdoor fun. And when we talk about shoes, a balance between comfortable and slightly airy option works the best during fall. Tassels, pom-poms, pop colours and ankle straps are all the rage this season and when it is cruelty free, it is just the cherry on the cake.
Whether you’re someone who prefers delicate cuts or all the way boho chic, there is something for everyone. Keeping the global trends in mind, following is a collection of fall outfits matched with the perfect pair from Kanabis, Peta approved Vegan women’s shoes.
Spotted on international runways, tassels are here to stay and adding the right amount of edginess to any look. Tassel tales are a perfect accessory for the boho girl in you. Pair them with an ankle grazing maxi dress or a printed cape. (Kurta from Tanu Tamby)
Delicate lace, colourful pom-poms and subtle colour, these slip-on fairy toes add the perfect feminine touch to your outfit. Pair them with a pair of ankle-length denim culottes for an outdoor get-together. (Culottes from bhane)
If quirk and colour define you, then gypsy girl is the go-to pair for you. It is everything fun, a splash of colour and perfect for when the day is dull and gloomy. Wear them with a pair of ikat print shorts for the extra quirk.
Sorbet coloured pom-poms are the way to go this fall to make sure all eyes are on you. Pair these with a playful skater dress for the perfect day look.
Festive season is just round the corner and it is time to work on the ethnic look. The subtle colours of the pinky promise are a fabulous blend with all your ethnic outfits. Pair it with a flowy floor length kurta or long skirt. (Angarkha from The Loom)
(Shorts in image 3 courtesy – pinterest)
We are often torn when it comes to accessorizing. Would floral printed wedges work with a printed maxi or is that a li’l OTT?! Can I rock lace up tassel sandals with my cold shoulder top? How about denim sliders with jeans and a denim crop top? Did we just pull a Denim-on-Denim-on Denim!
Decisions decisions..how does one choose?
Solid or print depends on the look you are going for. Solid colours can look trendy and classic both at once. Prints sure are more casual, but your feet deserve some fun too! A splash of colour is all it takes to add that zing to your day!
The look depends a lot on where and what the occasion is. If you are going for a fun casual Sunday brunch with your girl gang, play the cool chic and try the tribal printed espadrille sandals with your shorts and tee. If it’s a networking meet up over some coffee, what can be better than a solid classic piece.
The secret sauce is to balance things out. If its a plain top or dress, floral sneakers on your feet can look well cute. But you don’t want it too busy on the eye so if it’s a printed outfit then solid colour sneakers work. And don’t forget the bow on it!
In fashion, there are no rules. Here at Kanabis we play with prints, solids, and a variety of fabric. Wear what works-for you. Don’t forget to carry that confidence and charm ..and no matter what you’ll look fabulous!
Feet are probably the most neglected part of your body that demand the most (or a lot more) attention. Generally speaking, awareness is lacking when it comes to the correct love and care practices for the feet and one ends up falling for useless myths. If you are one of those then put your worthless worries to rest. We are here to burst some popular feet and footwear myths.
- Sunscreen on Feet?
Do you know that the skin on your feet is prone to many forms of skin cancer? It might sound absurd but your feet need sunscreen too. If you are out in sun, at least apply sunscreen every two to three hours without fail. Dermatologists say come hail, snow or sunshine, wear sunscreen!
- Feet issues- Nowhere to go!
Corns, verrucas, athletes foot, calluses, smelly feet and gout.. heard these terms before? These are some very common foot problems. You might even have it but you don’t know it. However, there is someone at your rescue, a podiatrist or ‘foot doctor’. Yes, they do exist! A Podiatrist diagnoses disorders related to foot, ankle and lower extremity. So next time, when you feel skin hardening on your sole or needle-pricking pain or sudden swelling around the toe, consult a podiatrist near you.
- Bunions- say what now?!
Many are unaware about bunions- a frequently found problem. Bunion is a bony hump that develops on the joint at the base of big toe. Footwear may or may not be the reason for bunion development. Inheritance of faulty foot structure, feet related injuries or deformity at birth are a few factors responsible for bunions. Ill fitting shoes might worsen your situation, so choose flat, low-heeled footwear that are wide and soft. You can even try your hands on bunion pads, orthotics and bunion correctors as well.
- Walk barefoot, it’s good for your feet
If you are at a farm at the break of dawn, the grass with morning dew beckons for a stroll without shoes. But try that at swimming pool changing area and say hello to fungal or viral infections! To make that pedicure last longer, don’t part away from flip flops or sliders when at home.
- Toenails- leave no tails
Many of us clip the toe-nails short and straight. The best practice is to trim toenails along the natural line and bid farewell to ingrown nails. In order to soften toenails, you can use toenail softening cream, soak feet in foot spa machine, apply tea tree oil or white vinegar.
Hopefully, now you won’t fall in the trap for such myths. Let us know if you are aware of more myths. Let’s burst some more bubbles together!
“Women are way too sensitive to start a Business or cope up with failure” – Patriarchy
Well, certainly anyone would need guts to say this to Vandana Luthra, Sairee Chahal, Anita Dongre, Falguni Nayar, ..you get the gist.
Ten years back, the very idea of Women starting their startup might seem quite improbable. However, the scenario has changed dramatically. Gone are the days, when business was solely meant for the men. With the new wave, women are toppling the patriarchy and embracing new roles. It won’t be inaccurate to say that, “Women entrepreneurship is the golden phase of the Startup Culture.”
To the badass ladies out there, here’s a small tribute from Kanabis to celebrate your hidden strength.
Do we need to say more? Women are born multitaskers. They don’t shy away from managing multiple roles together. At times, it might seem overwhelming but they balance everything like a pro. From running a company to running to fetch the groceries, you say it, it will be done.
Did I just say RISK?
The risk is crucial for any business, especially in the initial stage. However, calculated risk with a proper assessment of danger is the best strategy. Several studies have shown that women are way better-calculated risk takers compared to their counter parts. Besides, they tend to be more ambitious. Yasss….!
Overconfidence, What’s that?
Despite higher growth in business, women still feel they are just doing average. No, it’s not underconfidence. Everything comes down to the perception of success. Women tend to take a long-term view considering into account steady growth and not fast growth with a quick exit.
Challenges make us stronger!
Women tend to face much more challenges than men. Starting from the wage gap issues, struggling to build a network or coping up with the status quo. But they know that obstacles don’t understand gender. The good news is that they overcome any hurdle like a true warrior.
Negotiation is in our Blood
Women are savvy negotiators. They try to make everyone win in the deal. They are open to creativity and avoid wrong decision just to achieve a shiny goal.
So, ladies, never let anyone undermine your abilities. You are a born leader. Follow your passion and turn deaf ears to any not-so-useful advice. Let your inner badass rule the world!
After the scorching summer days, we are certain you must be enjoying the early and pleasant arrival of the monsoons. There is something special about the rains. Sipping a nicely brewed coffee, reading a good book, or enjoying the mangoes with the pitter patter in the backdrop is a indeed a perfect setting.
However, it brings with it mess, humidity (read bad hair days!). Not to forget the damage caused to your feet. After all, a mere glance at feet is enough to judge a person. And, one wants it to be the best. Besides, getting wet in the rain may cause some serious fungal or bacterial infection. Did we just get you worried? Relax! We do understand that avoiding getting wet in the rain is not always probable. To put your worries to rest, we are going to give you a quick 2 minutes handy guide to take care of your delicate feet this season.
- Keep Feet Clean And Dry
You need to assure that you dry your feet as soon as you get home drenched. Just dip your feet in lukewarm water for 10 minutes and add Dettol in it. Once done, pat your feet dry with a towel. You can apply some talcum powder to dry too. Moreover, keep your toe-nails short. Many times, dust gets accumulated in the nails leading to bacterial infection. Trust us, these healthy habits go a long way!
- Scrub and Moisturize
Now, let’s move on to something more fundamental and well-known. After cleaning your feet, you can use a scrubber to remove the old dead cells. You can then apply moisturizer to the cracked areas which help in forming new cells. Scrub and moisturize, seems simple?
- Footwear Time!
Do we need to tell you the importance of wearing the right footwear? *winks*
Try not to wear closed footwear at all. It’s the best to step out in flip-flops or open toe flats. Well, that’s not the end. After coming back, do wash the rain-soaked footwear in antibacterial water. Ah! We understand that you are tired but come on, your feet are special just like you!
- Foot Mask
Yes, you heard it right. Just like your face, your feet need a mask too. And yeah, we will ensure that it doesn’t burn a hole in your pocket. The key ingredients are right there in your kitchen- Lavender Oil, Multani Mitti, Neem, Turmeric. Make a paste and apply it to your feet keeping for at least half an hour. Pat dry with a towel and massage with olive oil. The end product is beautiful soft feet.
Sounds easy breezy? Indeed, it is. As long as you take care of your feet properly, you are free to enjoy this romantic season of happiness. Do follow these tips and let us know if they helped you in any way.
In our last post we unleashed some dark truths about how leather is made. Continuing that conversation, we bring to you the other side of that same coin. Be warned, it’s not a pretty read but such is reality.
The slaughterhouses are not just issues for animal lovers and environmentalists; they have also become a bane for the locals.Laxity for rules has led to the development of poor sanitary conditions in the slaughterhouses as well as the areas around them. Even after employing special sanitary workers, the houses are in a state of utter disgust.
Due to customary practices, animals are skinned on the floor, where there is a high probability of contaminating the meat. Also, the hides and the hoofs are not immediately disposed after their removal. Apart from these, one can also find dung and blood just lying around. As a result, there is a horrible stench emanating from these places. This makes it impossible for the locals to walk around without covering their noses.
Another major environmental concern is the disposal of waste water. Water from slaughter houses is full of pollutants that goes straight through the normal drainage system albeit there are government norms prohibiting such a practice. As a result, drains always smell and are filled with filth. This often chokes them up and jeopardizes the water system of the whole area. Clogged and dirty drains also provide a breeding ground for diseases.
Still thinking about that leather tote bag or those heels or suede loafers ? We can see heads shaking. At Kanabis, we are doing our bit by voicing our support for not just the animals but also for the people, our kin, suffering because of these. Are you doing yours?
Love. Peace. Vegan.
